Think about it!

In your opinion, if you were in serious need of an organ donation, would you accept or even want an organ from a death row inmate? I have been discussing the arguments of both sides of whether or not death row inmates should be accepted to donate their organs, but the real question may be would the person receiving the transplant even want an organ from them. Another serious issue could be when finding and matching a transplant would the person receiving the organ need to know who the transplant is coming from? Typically in a normal situation regarding organ transplants the receivers typically know where they are coming from, but should the death row inmate be able to reveal themselves? These questions may sound greedy and picky, but put yourself in the situation (although it is a terrible situation), would you or would you not accept the organ?

  1. I think people have a right to know where their prospective organs may be coming from. I personally would want to know, but I am not sure that would affect my decision whether to accept it or not. My decision might even be based on the fact on what organ it was and how much I needed it at the time. I feel like many people would definitely not want an organ from a suspected evil person...

  2. I personally strongly agree with bottoctc, I would want to know where my possible replacement organs would be coming from. My decision would be based upon the fact if there were other alternative organs and the severity of my situation. I think that organs from anyone if they choose to become an organ donor should be available. Although some people might not want a convicted felon and criminal's organs, that thought alone could be the deciding factor if the patient lives or dies. If this were allowed or accepted, criminals and felons could help save the lives of people who need various organs. When organs are scarce and very hard to find, maybe by donating perfectly healthy organs from convicted felons could do good things such as saving a life.

  3. If I needed an organ transplant and it was a match for everything, then I personally would not care if it came from an inmate on death row. I say this because it is a surgery that will save my life and I would be thankful for whoever gave it to me, even if it was from an inmate.

  4. I think it is reasonable that a organ receiver wold want to know who their organ is coming from. On the other hand if someone knew it was coming from a death row inmate that was a bad person they probably wouldn't want part of that bad person transplanted into them. Because they have the right to know, the receiver should be notified who it is from but encourage from the doctor that they should take the organ might help.

  5. I never really viewed your side that way, but the other side is pretty strong as well. China has a system that MAKES death row inmates give their organs anyway; it is a way that almost makes them "give back to society." They took the life of someone and this in turn helps them save a life. To be quiet honest, if I was in that situation, I might actually take the transplant, although the fact that it is coming from an evil person would haunt me.
